- Compare and contrast the Loving Kindness exercise and the Subtle mind exercise. Explain your experience including the benefits, frustrations etc.
In the Loving Kindness exercise I had a hard time focusing
and being interested to sticking with it and it didn’t work for me .The subtle
mind exercise was a perfect fit to me and I learned a lot about myself and how
my mind works. I noticed my mind wondering off a lot and thinking about work
and my sister in law Elsa who has cancer for the second time in one year. No
wonder I have dreams about work and what I need to get done and so on, I was
disturbed I have those thoughts because they do me no good! My thoughts can be
filled with positive feelings and mental pictures of happy times of my life and
family. The thoughts of elsa, I wish she
would go to support groups to talk about her feelings and stop feeling alone,
I. feel like she thinks nobody can relate to her because no one else has cancer,
I wish she would just get it ,the month before she had cancer she lost her job
and her dad and was in real finical difficulty with maybe losing their house
they recently bought and not being able to pay for bills. This is all related
to stress and the ability not to clam her mind along with not physically taking
care of herself.
One thing I noticed I need to worry about myself and how I
feel FIRST ,so this exercise is great for me to understand my self and the need
to practice this exercise daily.
- Discuss the connection of the spiritual wellness to mental and physical wellness. Explain how the connection is manifested in your personal life.
The connection of spiritual wellness
to mental and physical wellness is doing something like yoga, tai chi ,or
martial arts these can all connect the physical with the spiritual and vice
versa. Here we actually work out the
mind/body as a single unit. There is a fusion of physical movement and
Contemplative
practice that brings us more in touch with mind/body interaction. We develop
sensitivity to the subtle interconnection that has always been present though unnoticed.
The
connection is manifested in my personal life by taking yoga on a weekly basis
and martial arts. This helps me to stay focused and brings me more in touch
with myself though being more aware.
Hello!
ReplyDeleteIt seems like this excersice truly was a great fit for you! I have to agree that this excersice was truly beneficial. I also learned a lot about myself and the direction my mind takes me. Learning to acknowledge my thoughts and allow them to float through my mind is a huge asset to me and has helped me manage my thoughts and stresses. This excersice may be a great asset to your sister-in-law as well. Gaining the power of the witnessing mind may be helpful for her in her battle with cancer. Have you considered showing her the subtle mind?
Hello Walt,
ReplyDeleteI think this exercise was a the right one for you. I found it to be beneficial for me. The only thing you can do for your sister right now is be there for her. The best thing you can do for her is take care of yourself by doing meditation and taking yoga. I take qi gong it is a lot like ti chi if you really like yoga you would really like qi gong. It is a recommendation. The best thing you can do is take care of yourself with all the techniques that we are learning and pray if you are spiritual.I hope that she gets better soon. It is not an easy journey to get through. You sound like an amazing brother in law and you are doing the right things. I think if she were to try gaining the power of a witnessing mind might be helpful in her battle of cancer. My thoughts and prayers are with your entire family. If she could find support group that would be great. She could go to the American Cancer Society the will help her find a support group in her area. This is a tough topic I just got a new diagnosis of uterine and ovarian cancer this last week. Thank god I am having surgery in 3 and half weeks. Your entire family are in my thoughts and prayers.

I am sorry to hear about your sister-in-law. Maybe you could take some of what you are learning in this class and share it with her. Let her try out the guided meditations. This may help bring you two closer together and help each other through this. Remember this weeks lesson...Love, Forgive, and be Grateful. Sharing this information with her may help her and then in turn help you even more. ;)
ReplyDeleteWhile it may be difficult to get into the Subtle mind guided meditation it is still a decent one. I recommend trying it on different occasions and when there are less physical distractions for you. This may help. Also keep an extra opened mind when you try it. Think of it like ridding a bike or driving a car, you got better with practice and determination and/or a positive attitude. :)
I too enjoy Yoga. It is a great physical activity that is very relaxing to me. It is nice to hear others enjoy it too.
